What Patience Will Get You

 Patience

Under Construction

When we slow down and really pay attention to how our pencils behave, how they layer, how they mix & blend, how they respond to a lighter touch, they actually tell us what they need.

I see many artists pressing harder to get faster results. But, coloured pencils don’t respond well to force. Push too soon and they resist. The tooth disappears & the colour stops developing. When we ease up and go back to the basics, we layer lightly, build slowly and everything comes together in harmony. The colours stay luminous. The blends stay fresh. The process feels so much calmer.

And honestly, the thing I realised most was it made me reflect on how much pressure I put on myself too. Always trying to get things perfect too quickly. Constantly expecting more from myself, and from what I give to others. I am forever guilty of pushing harder than is needed.

This class reminded me that true depth comes from patience, and that this carries across from our pencils and into our real lives too. Sometimes slowing down actually gets you further, and as I mentioned in class, going back to basics does not mean it is a step backwards.
